How Can the Yankees Clinch?

The Yankees are on the verge of clinching their 28th American League Pennant. Here’s a look at how they can do it.

Checkout this video:

The current standings

The Yankees are currently in second place in the AL East with a record of 91-71, two games behind the Red Sox. They are also in the first wild card spot, four games ahead of the A’s. The Yankees have seven games left to play.

The AL East

The New York Yankees have already clinched a playoff spot, and they will most likely win the AL East. They have a 5.5 game lead on the second place Tampa Bay Rays, and they are 10 games ahead of the third place Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees have also clinched the best record in the American League, which means that they will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

To win the AL East, the Yankees need to either win their remaining games or have the Rays lose their remaining games. The Rays have a tough road ahead, as they are playing the Yankees and the Red Sox in their last two series. If the Rays lose both of those series, then the Yankees will win the AL East.

The Yankees could also clinch the AL East if they win one game and the Rays lose one game. If that happens, then the Yankees would have a 6.5 game lead with only five games left to play. The Rays would not be able to catch up, even if they won all of their remaining games.

So, it is very likely that the Yankees will clinch the AL East in the next few days. Keep an eye on both teams as we head down to the wire!

The AL Wild Card

The American League Wild Card is the fourth and final playoff spot in the Major League Baseball postseason. The Wild Card teams play each other in a one-game playoff, with the winner advancing to face the top seed in the AL Division Series.

As of September 18th, the AL Wild Card race is between the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees currently hold a 1.5 game lead over the A’s, meaning they would advance to the Wild Card game if the season ended today.

However, there are still plenty of games left to be played, and anything can happen. If you’re a Yankees fan, you’ll be rooting for them to clinch the AL Wild Card so they can continue their quest for a 28th World Series title!

The remaining schedule

The Yankees are currently in first place in the AL East, three games ahead of the Rays. They have 13 games remaining on the schedule, including seven at home and six on the road. They will face the Rays, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Red Sox.

The Yankees

The Yankees have clinched a playoff berth and are guaranteed at least a spot in the Wild Card Game. They will host the Minnesota Twins in the AL Wild Card Game on Tuesday, October 3 at 8:07 p.m. ET on ESPN. If they win, they will advance to the ALDS, where they will play the winner of the Oakland Athletics-Houston Astros game.

The Red Sox

The Red Sox are in a bit of a pickle. If the Yankees win their game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, October 13, the Red Sox will be eliminated from the playoffs. However, if the Yankees lose, the Red Sox will clinch the American League East title.

The Rays

The remaining schedule – (How Can the Yankees Clinch?)
The Yankees play their final regular season series against the Rays September 27-29 at Tropicana Field. The Rays have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, but they are still fighting for home field advantage.

The magic number

The Yankees can clinch if they win 2 more games or if the Orioles and Rays both lose 1 game. The magic number is 2.

What is the magic number?

The magic number is the number of games a team must win to clinch a particular spot in the standings. For example, if the Yankees have a magic number of 2, that means they need to win 2 more games than the Red Sox to clinch the AL East title.

How can the Yankees clinch?

The Yankees can clinch a postseason berth in one of two ways: winning the American League East division or securing a wild card spot.

If the Yankees win the AL East, they will automatically earn a spot in the playoffs. The AL East is one of five divisions in Major League Baseball (MLB). The other four divisions are the AL Central, NL Central, NL West, and NL East. Each division has three playoff spots. The division winner with the best record earns the first seed and home-field advantage in the division series. The division winner with the second-best record earns the second seed and home-field advantage in the wild card game. The division winner with the third-best record earns the third seed and will play on the road in the wild card game.

If the Yankees do not win the AL East, they can still make playoffs as a wild card team. There are two wildcard spots available each year, one in each league. The top two non-division winning teams with the best records regardless of division earn these spots. Like division winners, wild card teams also play each other in a one-game playoff to advance to regular postseason play.

The scenarios

October baseball is upon us and the Yankees are in the drivers seat for the AL East. They have a comfortable six and a half game lead over the Rays with just nine games left to play. They also have a two game lead over the Twins for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. So how can they clinch?

If the Yankees win…

If the Yankees win Friday, they clinch at least a wild card. If the Red Sox lose Friday, the Yankees clinch the division.

If the Yankees lose…

If the Yankees lose to the Rays AND the Red Sox beat the Orioles, then the Rays will clinch the AL East.
