Clay Holmes was drafted by the Yankees in the 9th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of high school. He didn’t sign with the Yankees and instead went to college. He was drafted again by the Pirates in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He made his debut in 2019.
They acquired him from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft.
Clay Holmes was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 9th round of the 2011 MLB draft. He made his Major League debut with the Pirates in 2017.
On December 8, 2016, the Yankees selected Holmes from the Pirates in the Rule 5 draft. To keep him, they would have had to give up their #1 international signing bonus slot, which was worth $3.25 million at the time.
The Yankees kept Holmes on their roster for most of 2017, but optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on August 25 when they acquired Jaime García from the Minnesota Twins.
