The Yankees have lost eleven World Series.
The Yankees have a long and storied history, and are one of the most successful teams in baseball. They’ve won 27 World Series titles, more than any other team in Major League Baseball. But they’ve also lost 11 World Series, including some very heartbreaking losses.
One of the most infamous losses was in 2001, when they lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in game seven. That was a particularly tough loss because the Yankees were leading in the ninth inning, only to lose it in the bottom of the inning. The Yankees also lost to the Boston Red Sox in game seven of the 2004 ALCS, another heartbreaking loss.
Most recently, the Yankees lost to the Houston Astros in game seven of the 2017 ALCS. That was a tough loss for many reasons, not least of which was because it meant that the Astros would be going to their first ever World Series.
So while the Yankees have been incredibly successful, they’ve also had their fair share of losses.
The Yankees have lost in the following years: 1903, 1912, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1942, 1951, 1952, 1953, and 2001.
The Yankees have a long and storied history, dating back to their founding in 1903. They’ve won 27 World Series titles, more than any other team in Major League Baseball, and 40 American League pennants. But they’ve also lost 11 World Series, including some very memorable losses.
1903 was the first year the Yankees played in the World Series, and they lost to the Boston Americans (now the Red Sox) 3-2-1. It was a best-of-nine series, and the Yankees lost the deciding game 9-3.
1912 was another tough loss for Yankees fans. The team had won its first pennant in 1909 and had made it to the World Series three years in a row, but they still couldn’t win it all. They lost to the Boston Red Sox 4-3-1, with Boston taking the deciding game 3-2.
The Yankees finally won their first World Series in 1923, but it was just the beginning of a dynasty. They would go on to win four more titles in 1927, 1928, 1932, and 1936. But they also lost four times during that stretch: 1926 (to the Cardinals), 1927 (tothe Pirates), 1928 (tothe Cardinals again), and 1932 (tothe Giants).
After winning another world championship in 1937, the Yankees went through a bit of a dry spell. They didn’t make it back to the Fall Classic until 1941, when they lost to the Brooklyn Dodgers 4-1. They were back again in 1942, but this time they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2-1. It would be another 10 years before they won another title.
The early 1950s were tough for Yankee fans. The team made it to the World Series three times in a row from 1950 to 1952, but they lost all three times: 1950 (to the Phillies), 1951 (tothe Giants), and 1952 (tothe Dodgers). In 1953, they finally broke through and beat aballdropsignedbyBobbyThomsonfortheirfifthtitleinthe decade
