Introduction

In order to compile a list of every Yankee who has 3,000 hits, we consulted baseball-reference.com. The list includes every player who played at least half of their games at shortstop (a position that has historically been home to some of the game’s best hitters), as well as any player who is generally considered to be one of the best hitters of all time, regardless of position.

The Yankees with 3000 Hits

The New York Yankees have had 27 players reach the 3,000 hit mark in their storied history. This total is the most of any Major League Baseball franchise. The first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits was none other than the great Babe Ruth, who accomplished the feat in 1921. The most recent Yankee to reach 3,000 hits is Derek Jeter, who did it in 2009. In between those two greats, there have been many other great Yankees who have reached the 3,000 hit mark.

Babe Ruth

Babe Ruth is one of the most iconic figures in baseball history, and for good reason. He was an incredible player who did things that had never been done before and likely will never be done again. One of those things is getting 3000 hits. Only 27 other players have accomplished this feat in the history of Major League Baseball, and Ruth is the only player to have done it with the Yankees. He played for the Yankees from 1920-1934 and is considered by many to be the greatest Yankee of all time.

Lou Gehrig

Lou Gehrig was the first Yankee to ever get 3000 hits. He got his 3000th hit on July 10, 1939, against the Washington Senators. He finished his career with 3927 hits, which is still a Yankee record.

Mickey Mantle

Mantle is one of only four Yankee players to have amassed 3000 hits, along with Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, and Derek Jeter. He is also the only player in history to accumulate both 500 home runs and 3000 hits. In his illustrious 18-year career with the Bronx Bombers, Mantle was a 20-time All-Star, won three AL MVP Awards, and helped lead the Yankees to 12 World Series titles. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter was the New York Yankees’ all-time leader in hits with 3,465. He was a shortstop for the Yankees from 1995 to 2014. Jeter is a 14-time All-Star, five-time World Series champion and won five Gold Glove Awards. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1996 and was the AL Most Valuable Player in 2000.

Conclusion

So far, there have been 24 Yankees that have reached the 3,000 hit mark. Of those 24, 12 have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The most recent Yankee to reach 3,000 hits was Derek Jeter, who did so in July of 2011.
