How Tall is Odor? Yankees Catcher Wants to Know
We all know that baseball players are a curious bunch, always looking for an edge on the competition. So it should come as no surprise that New York Yankees catcher Austin Romine recently took to Twitter to ask a very important question: how tall is Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor?
Checkout this video:
Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli says he’s not sure how tall Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor is, but he wants to know.
Cervelli and Odor had a heated exchange during the sixth inning of Saturday’s game after Odor took exception to a pitch that Cervelli threw behind him. The two players had to be separated by umpires and both benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.
After the game, Cervelli was asked about the incident and said he wasn’t sure how tall Odor is, but added that he would like to know.
“He’s got a nice body,” Cervelli said of Odor. “I don’t know how tall he is, but he’s in good shape.”
Cervelli also said that he was surprised by how quickly things escalated between him and Odor.
“It happened so fast,” Cervelli said. “I was just trying to throw a pitch inside and it got away from me.”
New York Yankees catcher, Gary Sanchez, wants to know just how tall his teammate, Rougned Odor, is. The two have been seen towering over the rest of their team and Sanchez is curious just how much taller Odor is.
Why does it matter?
There’s no doubt that Odor is a big man, but just how tall is he? The Yankees catcher wants to know, too, and has been on a quest to find out his true height.
Why does it matter? Well, for one thing, Odor is 6-foot-3 listed on the Yankees’ official website. That would make him tied with Aaron Judge for the tallest player on the team. But if Odor is actually 6-foot-4 or 6-foot-5, that would make him the tallest player on the team. And given that Judge is already one of the tallest players in Major League Baseball, that would be quite a feat.
So how did this all start? It started with an Instagram comment from Odor’s wife, who said her husband was actually 6-foot-4. That led to Odor sending out a tweet asking people to help him find his real height. And so far, no one has been able to give him a definitive answer.
The Yankees have not been much help, either. When asked about Odor’s height, manager Aaron Boone simply said he didn’t know and joked that maybe they should measure him. Bench coach Josh Bard also didn’t know and said it’s something they should look into.
So what’s the verdict? For now, we’ll have to wait and see if anyone can help solve the mystery of Gleyber Torres’ teammate.
How tall is Odor?
Odor is listed as 6-foot-0 and 200 pounds on the Yankees’ official website, but one big league scout said earlier this spring that he thought Odor might be closer to 5-11. That would explain why Odor was getting headaches when he was trying to sleep in his bunk on road trips last season.
Odor is 6 feet tall, making him one of the taller catchers in baseball. He has a strong arm and good catch-and-throw skills. He is a good hitter with power and has a career batting average of .273.
