The Yankees Triple A affiliate team history

The New York Yankees have had numerous Triple-A affiliate teams over the course of their history. The first team to bear the Yankees name was the Baltimore Orioles (1882–1889), who were known as the New York Highlanders until 1913. Orioles is also a name used by several minor league baseball teams, including affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.

The most recent Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees was the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, which served as the team’s top farm club from 2007 to 2017. Prior to 2007, the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate was the Columbus Clippers, who joined the International League in 1977.

The Yankees also had a brief foray into the Pacific Coast League with the Albuquerque Dukes (1972–1976). While Albuquerque was geographically closer to New York City than either Columbus or Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, it was not part of the Yankees’ farm system and there was no formal affiliation between the two clubs.
