The New York Yankees’ Record

The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City; the other club is the National League (NL)’s New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the team the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed as the “Yankees” in 1913.

The team is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, an LLC controlled by the family of the late George Steinbrenner, who purchased surrounding psychiatric hospital property in 1973 to construct Yankee Stadium, which opened two years later. Brian Cashman is the team’s general manager, and Aaron Boone is their manager. The team’s home games were played at Yankee Stadium from 1923 to 1973 and from 1976 to 2008. In 1974 and 1975, outdoor games were played at Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens. In 2009, they moved into a new ballpark also called Yankee Stadium

The Yankees’ Key Players

The Yankees have a number of key players that have contributed to their success this season.

Leading the team in home runs is rookie slugger Aaron Judge, who has been a revelation for the Yankees. His combination of power and plate discipline has made him one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball, and he figures to be a key part of the Yankees’ lineup for years to come.

Another key player for the Yankees has been starting pitcher Luis Severino. Severino has been downright dominant this season, posting a 2.10 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning. He has been particularly effective down the stretch, as he has helped to solidify the Yankees’ grip on first place in their division.

Finally, closer Aroldis Chapman has been exceptional for the Yankees this season, converting 32 of 34 save opportunities while posting a 2.23 ERA. Chapman’s dominant left arm gives the Yankees a huge advantage in late-inning situations, and he has been crucial to their success this season.
