George is a groundskeeper
George is a full-time employee of the New York Yankees, and has been since he was 22 years old. He is currently in his early 60s. George’s specific job title is “groundskeeper”, but he does much more than that. In the spring, prior to the start of the baseball season, George and the other members of the grounds crew work long hours to get the field ready. This includes painting lines, raking the infield dirt, mowing the grass, and putting down fresh sod (if necessary). Once the season starts, George’s job shifts to mainly maintaining the field during games and between games. This means dragging the infield, mowing again, watering down dust spots, and picking up any trash that may have blown onto the field. In addition, George also helps out with other duties around the stadium as needed – such as setting up for concerts or special events. He is a hard worker and takes pride in his job – which shows in how beautiful Yankee Stadium looks year after year.
