The Yankees’ Lineup

The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City, that competes in Major League Baseball (MLB). They are one of the American League’s (AL) eight charter teams. One of the AL’s four original cornerstone franchises, the franchise was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. moved to New York City in 1903 and became known as the New York Highlanders before being officially renamed as the “Yankees” in 1913. From 1923 to 2008, the Yankees’ home ballpark was Yankee Stadium; in 2009, they moved into a new ballpark of the same name that was constructed adjacent to the previous facility. The team is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, an LLC controlled by the family of the late George Steinbrenner, who purchased them in 1973. Brian Cashman is their general manager, and Aaron Boone is their manager.

The team’s spring training camp is located in Tampa, Florida, while its Class-A minor league affiliate is the Tampa Tarpons and its Triple-A minor league affiliate is the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Yankees have won 19 World Series titles (including their first two seasons of play), 40 American League pennants, and 27 East Division championships—all of which are MLB records—and leads all major North American professional sports leagues with an overall win–loss record .752 (10275–3476) as of 2019. The Yankees have more postseason appearances than any other team (75), have played in more World Series (40) than any other team , and have amassed more series victories () than any other team . Thirty-seven Yankees players and eleven Yankees managers have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame , including Babe Ruth , Lou Gehrig , Joe DiMaggio , Mickey Mantle , Yogi Berra , Whitey Ford , Bill Dickey , Thurman Munson , Reggie Jackson , Dave Winfield , Derek Jeter , and Mariano Rivera . In pursuit of winning championships—their stated goal since purchasing the club in 1973—the franchise has used a large payroll to recruitment high-profile free agents such as Reggie Jackson ($2.96 million signing bonus), Alex Rodriguez ($252 million contract), Jason Giambi ($88 million contract), Johnny Damon ($52 million contract), Masahiro Tanaka ($155 million contract), CC Sabathia ($161 million contract) and Giancarlo Stanton ($325 million contract). As one of probably two teams outspending their revenue each year since 1990 —the other being their LVP Storied Franchise rivals Boston Red Sox [] —the Yankees generate over $6 million annually from their regional sports network YES Network . In 2017–18 Forbes valued them at $4 billion[4][5] making them co-equal with Manchester United F.C., Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona for most valuable sports franchise worldwide until Liverpool F.C.’s recent surge eclipsed all others at $5 billion when it too was purchased by Steinbrenner’s sons Hal and Hank during October 2010
