Introduction

The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City, the other being the New York Mets of the National League. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles team), moving to New York in 1903 and adopting the nickname Highlanders—as a reference to their elevated home ballpark, Hilltop Park—in 1913. In 1914, they became known officially as the Yankees, although that nickname had been used interchangeably by fans and sportswriters for years before then. The team’s colors are navy blue and white.

The Yankees have won 27 World Series championships,[note 1] 40 American League (AL) pennants, and 19 AL East Division titles. Forty-three Yankees players and twelve managers have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame;[11] Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Mickey Mantle are among these members who were elected while still playing for the team. The team’s rivalry with the Boston Red Sox is one of its most heated rivalries.[12][13] From 1903–2019 inclusive, they have an overall win–loss record of 10275–7781 (.568).[14]

Pregame Activities

For many New Yorkers, Bronx baseball is a summertime tradition. Yankee Stadium is located in the Bronx, and although it’s been rebuilt and renovated several times since it first opened its doors in 1923, it remains an iconic New York City landmark. If you’re planning to attend a Yankees game, there are a few things you should know before you go.

First, if you want to get to your seat for the national anthem, you should plan to arrive at the stadium early. The gates open 90 minutes before game time, and if you want to watch batting practice (which is free), you should be there even earlier.

Second, if you’re bringing food into the stadium, remember that all containers must be clear plastic or aluminum and no larger than 1 liter. You’re also allowed to bring in one unopened bottle of water per person.

Finally, be prepared for security screenings upon entry. All guests will have their bags searched and walk through metal detectors.

If you keep these things in mind, you’re sure to have a great time at the ballpark!

The Game Itself

The game itself is set to begin at 7:05 pm EDT on Friday, September 27th.

Post-Game Activities

After the game, there are a variety of post-game activities to keep you entertained. If you’re looking for something to eat, there are a number of great restaurants near the stadium. Or, if you’re looking to drink, there are also plenty of bars in the area. If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, there are a number of family-friendly activities nearby as well.
