Introduction

The Yankees are a professional baseball team based in New York City, New York. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City; the other club is the National League (NL)’s New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no connection to the modern Baltimore Orioles team). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the team the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed the Yankees in 1913.

Pregame Activities

As the official website of the New York Yankees, we get a lot of questions about game times. The answer, unfortunately, is that we don’t know until the day of the game.

The reason for this is that the Yankees play their home games at Yankee Stadium, which is in the Eastern time zone. However, they also travel to play against teams in other time zones. So, the game time is only set once the team knows what time zone they’ll be playing in.
