The Early Years
The New York Yankees are one of the most iconic baseball teams in America. They have a long and storied history, dating back to their founding in 1903. The Yankees were originally known as the Highlanders, and they played their home games at Hilltop Park. In 1913, they moved to Yankee Stadium, which is still their home today. The team has won 27 World Series titles, more than any other team in baseball.
The team’s origins
The New York Yankees began life in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the current team of the same name), one of eight charter franchises of the newly formed American League. The Orioles, under manager John McGraw, finished in last place in their inaugural season. Unfortunately for McGraw, the rest of his tenure with the Orioles would prove to be just as unsuccessful, as the team never finished higher than seventh place during his six years at the helm. In January 1903, McGraw jumped ship to manage the National League’s New York Giants, taking several key Oriole players with him.

The purchase made the Yankees the richest baseball team at the time.

The team’s logo has undergone several changes over the years. The current logo, which was introduced in 1947, features a blue baseball embroidered with white stitching and the letters “NY” in white script. The logo is framed by a white border.
