Yankees Rumors
The Yankees are looking to make some trades this offseason and they have been linked to a few different players. The Yankees are reportedly interested in trading for starting pitchers, relievers, and a bat. The Yankees have been linked to Gerrit Cole, Madison Bumgarner, and Bryce Harper.
Sonny Gray
The Yankees are shopping Sonny Gray and have had “lukewarm” talks with the Brewers, according to a report.
Gray, 28, has struggled since being traded to the Yankees from the Oakland Athletics prior to the 2017 season. In two years with New York, Gray is 15-16 with a 4.51 ERA. He was 8-10 with a 4.90 ERA in 30 starts last season.
The right-hander is due to make $7.5 million in 2019 and is under team control through 2020.
Jaime Garcia
The Yankees have been rumored to be interested in Jaime Garcia, a starting pitcher who is currently a free agent. Garcia has pitched for the Cardinals, Braves, and Twins in his career, and he is coming off a season in which he had a 4.41 ERA in 26 starts.
Michael Pineda
As the Yankees continue to search for starting pitching, they have been linked to several names on the trade market. One of those names is Michael Pineda, who is reportedly drawing interest from New York.
Pineda, 28, is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2017 season. He is currently in his second year with the Minnesota Twins, and has pitched to a 4-7 record with a 4.40 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 18 starts.
The Yankees are said to be interested in Pineda because of his experience pitching in the AL East. Pineda spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the New York Yankees in 2014. He was then dealt to the Twins prior to the 2016 season.
In his career, Pineda has made 49 starts against AL East opponents, and has pitched to a 21-17 record with a 3.93 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in those games.
Yankees Trade Targets
The Yankees have been linked to a number of trade rumors this offseason. Here are some of the players they’ve been rumored to be interested in.
Gerrit Cole
Cole is a 29-year-old righty from Southern California. He was drafted 28th overall by the Yankees in 2008 but did not sign and instead went to UCLA, where he became a first-team All-American. The Yankees took him again in the first round in 2011 (28th overall), and this time he signed. He made his big league debut in 2013, but due to injuries, he didn’t become a full-time starter until 2016. In 2019, Cole was an All-Star for the first time and finished fourth in AL Cy Young voting after going 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and major league-leading 263 strikeouts in 212.1 innings pitched.
Brad Hand
The Yankees have been linked to San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand, who would provide a boost to the back end of their bullpen. Hand, 28, is under contract through 2021 and is owed just $10 million over the next two seasons. He’s coming off a 2018 campaign in which he posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 42 saves while striking out 115 batters in 69 innings pitched.
Josh Harrison
The New York Yankees have been linked to multiple trade targets as the July 31st trade deadline approaches. One name that has come up recently is Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Harrison is a versatile player who can play multiple positions, and he would be a valuable addition to the Yankees’ lineup.
Harrison is a career .277 hitter, and he has compiled 11 home runs and 45 RBI so far this season. He would provide the Yankees with some much-needed depth in the infield, and he could also be used as a pinch-hitter or pinch-runner late in games. The Yankees are reportedly interested in acquiring Harrison, but it is unclear what they would be willing to give up in return.
Pittsburg pirates general manager Neal Huntington acknowledged that the team is “listening to offers” for Harrison, but he also said that the Pirates are not actively shopping him. It remains to be seen if the Yankees will be able to agree on a trade with the Pirates for Harrison, but it is clear that he is on their radar as the trade deadline approaches.
Yankees Trade Deadline
The Yankees have been linked to a lot of trade rumors lately. With the trade deadline just a few days away, it’s time to take a look at who the Yankees could be trading. The Yankees have some surplus pieces, and there are a few teams that could use help in specific areas. Let’s take a look at who the Yankees could be trading.
July 31st
As the July 31st trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees have been linked to a number of potential trades. The Yankees are currently in first place in the American League East, but they are only a half-game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees are also nine games behind the Houston Astros for the best record in baseball, so they may be looking to make a trade to improve their chances of winning the World Series.
The most recent rumors have linked the Yankees to relief pitchers Kirby Yates and Shane Greene of the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers, respectively. Both Yates and Greene are having excellent seasons and would be solid additions to the Yankees’ bullpen. The Yankees may also be interested in acquiring starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner of the San Francisco Giants. Bumgarner is a four-time All-Star and has won three World Series titles with the Giants, so he would be a valuable addition to the Yankees’ rotation.
We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
August 1st
It’s that time of year again, Yankees fans. As the calendar turns to August, the trade deadline looms large. And as has been the case in years past, the Yankees are expected to be major players leading up to the deadline.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the names that have been bandied about as potential trade targets for the Yankees.
As always, we’ll start with pitchers. The Yankees’ starting rotation has been solid for the most part this season, but there are still some question marks. Sonny Gray has been a big disappointment, and it’s unclear what the team will get from CC Sabathia down the stretch. Bringing in another arm could be a wise move.
One name that has been mentioned is Chris Archer of the Tampa Bay Rays. Archer is having a down year by his standards, but he’s still a very good pitcher and would be a valuable addition to any rotation. He’s signed through 2021 on a very affordable contract, so he’d be a great long-term piece for the Yankees as well.
Another name to keep an eye on is J.A. Happ of the Toronto Blue Jays. Happ is having a terrific season and would be a welcome addition to any starting rotation. He’s set to become a free agent after this season, so he’d be more of a rental player than anything else. But he could be just what the Yankees need to solidify their rotation for a playoff run.
Of course, any discussion of potential trade targets for the Yankees must include Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles. Machado is one of baseball’s best players and would be an instant upgrade at third base for the Yankees. He’s set to become a free agent after this season, so he’d also be more of a rental player than anything else. But he could be well worth giving up some prospects for if it means bringing another World Series title back to New York City.
