The New York Yankees have just signed a new player to their team, and he is only 21 years old. His name is Miguel Andujar, and he is from the Dominican Republic. He is a third baseman and has been playing in the minor leagues for the Yankees since 2013.
Andujar was signed by the Yankees as an international free agent in July of 2011. He played in the Dominican Summer League that year and hit .349/.442/.544 with four home runs and 30 RBI in 50 games. The next year, he played for the Charleston RiverDogs of the Class A South Atlantic League and hit .267/.329/.402 with five home runs and 51 RBI in 128 games.
Andujar played for the Tampa Yankees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in 2014 and hit .276/.341/.469 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI in 117 games. He also played in six games for the Trenton Thunder of the Double-A Eastern League at the end of the season. In 2015, he played for both Tampa and Trenton and hit a combined .253/.307/.402 with seven home runs and 62 RBI in 133 games.
Last season, Andujar played 123 games for Trenton and hit .273/.332/.434 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI. He was named to the Eastern League mid-season All-Star team and was also named the league’s MVP after the season.
