Yankees Draft Picks
The New York Yankees have selected catcher Anthony Seigler with the 23rd overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. Seigler, a switch-hitter from Cartersville High School in Georgia, was widely considered one of the best prep catchers in the draft. He is committed to the University of Florida.
1st Round
The Yankees have selected right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt out of the University of South Carolina with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
Schmidt, 21, went 8-5 with a 3.40 ERA (22 ER/58.0 IP) and 61 strikeouts against 15 walks in 17 starts for the Gamecocks this season, his first year back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2016. He helped lead South Carolina to an NCAA Regional appearance this season, as he went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA (3 ER/14.0 IP) in two starts during regional play. In total, he allowed three runs or less and pitched at least 6.0 innings in 13 of his 17 starts this season.
2nd Round
The New York Yankees have selected University of Miami outfielder, Willie Abreu, in the 2nd round of the 2016 MLB draft.

Yankees Draft Analysis
The New York Yankees have selected Jasson Dominguez with the 23rd pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Dominguez is a 17-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic who has been compared to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let’s take a closer look at the Yankees’ latest draft pick.
1st Round
The Yankees selected right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt out of the University of South Carolina with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. Schmidt, 21, was ranked as the No. 26 prospect in the draft by Baseball America and the No. 29 prospect by MLB Pipeline. He underwent Tommy John surgery last May and did not pitch at all during his junior season.
2nd Round
The Yankees drafted right-handed pitcher Anthony Seigler with the 23rd pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. Seigler, who is from Cartersville, Georgia, is a high schooler that stands at 6-foot and 200 pounds. He bats and throws right-handed.
According to MLB.com’s Scouting Grades (presented on a 20-80 scale), Seigler has a 60 for his fastball, 55 for his curveball and changeup, and 50 for his slider and control. His fastball sits in the low 90s.
3rd Round
The New York Yankees selected University of Pittsburgh left-handed pitcher Richie Stokes with the 89th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Stokes, 21, is a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder who features a low-90s fastball and a plus slider. He went 4-4 with a 3.23 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 90 innings (15 starts) as a junior this season.
A Cape Cod League All-Star in 2019, Stokes projects as a middle reliever at the big league level. He should begin his professional career with either Low-A Charleston or High-A Tampa later this summer.
