Introduction

The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City, the other being the National League’s (NL) New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles team), moving to New York in 1903 and adopting the name of the AL Club.

General Manager Brian Cashman

Cashman said that Ellsbury “tweaked” his oblique while hitting off a tee on Tuesday. An MRI taken on Wednesday revealed a Grade 1 strain, and Cashman said the hope is that Ellsbury can return by the end of the month.

“It’s not a DL (disabled list) situation yet,” Cashman said. “But anytime you’re talking about an oblique, those things have a tendency to linger.”

The GM also announced that third baseman Miguel Andujar is dealing with a small tear in his right shoulder. Andujar will not undergo surgery, but he will be shut down for 3-5 weeks.

Catcher Gary Sanchez

Sanchez has been out of the lineup since April 12th with a strained left calf and was placed on the 10-day injured list. He is eligible to return on May 2nd.

First Baseman Luke Voit

First baseman Luke Voit was injured on Friday when he took a pitch to the face in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Voit was helped off the field and taken to the hospital for evaluation. The Yankees have not released any information about the extent of Voit’s injury.

Third Baseman Gio Urshela

Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela suffered a right elbow injury on Saturday and is currently day-to-day, according to manager Aaron Boone.

Urshela injured himself while swinging the bat in the bottom of the fifth inning during the Yankees’ 9-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. He was replaced by Tyler Wade in the top of the sixth inning.

This is a significant injury for Urshela, who has been one of the Yankees’ best players this season. In 50 games, he is batting .298 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs.

The Yankees are already without star slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who has been sidelined since April 1 with a left biceps strain.

Shortstop Didi Gregorius

Didi Gregorius suffered a right wrist injury while fielding a grounder during Spring Training. He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton, the New York Yankees’ star outfielder, is currently injured and not playing. Stanton sustained a calf strain early in spring training and has been slow to recover. He has been doing some light running and hitting in the cages, but is not yet ready to return to game action. As a result, Stanton will likely start the season on the disabled list.

Conclusion

The Yankees have a number of players on the injured list, but they are still fielding a competitive team. The most notable players on the IL are outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, who are both expected to return later in the season. The Yankees have also been without starters Luis Severino and CC Sabathia for most of the season, but they recently got Severino back and Sabathia is expected to return soon. The Yankees have been able to stay competitive thanks to strong performances from their remaining starters, including Masahiro Tanaka, Domingo German, and J.A. Happ.
