The Yankees have been a baseball powerhouse for many years. They have had many great players, including some great catchers. Some of the Yankees’ great catchers include Yogi Berra, Bill Dickey, Elston Howard, and Thurman Munson.

One of the most popular and successful players in Yankees history, Yogi Berra was a 15-time All-Star and a three-time AL MVP. He played on 10 World Series championship teams, and his .halftime as a catcher is still considered one of the best ever.
Thurman Munson
Thurman Munson was the catcher for the New York Yankees from 1969 to 1979. He was a 7-time All-Star, a 3-time Gold Glove winner, and the 1976 AL MVP. He was also named to the Yankees’ all-century team in 2000. Munson was killed in a plane crash in 1979.
Jorge Posada
Jorge Posada was one of the Yankees’ great catchers. He was a five-time All-Star and helped the team win five World Series titles.

In 2018, Higashioka hit .238/.313/.482 with 10 home runs in just 52 games. His home run total would have been even higher if he had played a full season, as he hit seven home runs in just 22 games in September.
Higashioka also did a great job behind the plate, throwing out 41% of attempted base stealers (10/24) and handling the Yankees’ pitching staff well.
The Yankees are high on Higashioka and they believe that he has what it takes to be their long-term answer at catcher. He will likely be the team’s primary catcher in 2019, and he could be their starter for years to come.
Chris Iannetta
Chris Iannetta is the Yankees’ catcher. He is 34 years old and has played in the majors for 12 seasons. Iannetta is a solid defensively catcher who has a good arm and is good at handling pitchers.
