Aaron Boone

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has been relieved of his duties, the team announced on Thursday.

The move comes after the Yankees’ disappointing end to the 2020 season, in which they were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

Boone was in his third season as Yankees manager, and had led the team to an overall record of 253-161.

In a statement, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said that the team “decided to part ways” with Boone.

“I want to thank Aaron for his three years with us as our manager,” Steinbrenner said. “He has been a tremendous leader for this organization and I have nothing but respect for him.”

Steinbrenner added that a search for a new manager will begin immediately.
