Lou Gehrig’s number 4 was retired on June 2, 1939; Joe DiMaggio’s number 5 was retired exactly fifty years later on June 2, 1999; Mickey Mantle’s number 7 was retire don June 8, 1996; and Whitey Ford’s 16 was retired on October 1st, 1974.
