AL East Standings
The New York Yankees are in first place in the AL East with a record of 91-71. The Tampa Bay Rays are in second place with a record of 90-72. The Yankees have a one-game lead over the Rays and they will most likely win the division.
The Yankees’ Record
The Yankees have clinched the AL East and will be playing in the playoffs. As of September 29th, their record is 103-58.
The Red Sox’s Record
The Red Sox have clinched the AL East title and will have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They will play the winner of the AL Wild Card game in the ALDS.
The Rays’ Record
The Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the most pleasant surprises in baseball this season. After shedding several high-priced veterans in the offseason, not many expected the Rays to contend for a playoff spot in 2018. However, thanks to some savvy additions, breakout seasons from young players, and great managing by Kevin Cash, the Rays find themselves in the thick of the AL East race.
As of September 18th, the Rays have an 80-62 record, good for second place in the AL East behind the Boston Red Sox. They are also just 2.5 games behind the Oakland Athletics for the first Wild Card spot in the American League. While it is unlikely that they will catch the Red Sox for first place in the division, they should still be in good position to make the playoffs as either a division winner or a Wild Card team.
Even if they don’t end up winning their division or earning a Wild Card berth, there is still a good chance that the Rays will be playing meaningful baseball games in October. They are currently 4.5 games ahead of both the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros for the second Wild Card spot. As long as they can maintain that lead over those teams, they should be in good shape to make a run at October baseball.

The Yankees are currently in first place in the AL East with a record of 95-67. The Tampa Bay Rays are in second place with a record of 94-68. The Oakland Athletics are in third place with a record of 93-69. The Cleveland Indians are in fourth place with a record of 92-70. The Houston Astros are in fifth place with a record of 91-71.
