Roster

The Baltimore Orioles are a professional baseball team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. As one of the AL’s eight charter teams in 1901, this particular franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where it played as the St. Louis Browns from 1902 through 1953. After 52 years in St. Louis, the franchise was purchased in November 1953 by a syndicate headed by Baltimore business interests led by Clarence Miles and Jack Dunn Jr., owner and general manager of the Eagles, who then moved the team to Baltimore for the 1954 season, renaming themselves as the Baltimore Orioles. The team’s current owner is Peter Angelos.

The Orioles have had several periods of success throughout their history including 3 World Series titles (1966, 1970, 1983), 7 AL Pennants (1964-1971, 1979, 1983), and 6 East Division titles (1969-1971, 1973-1974, 1979). However, they have also gone through periods of extended mediocrity or poor play including 14 straight losing seasons from 1998-2011 and finishing last in their division 18 times since 1954. Despite their many ups and downs throughout their history, the Orioles are one of only three franchises (the other two being the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants) to have never relocated nor had their franchise revoked by Major League Baseball.
