The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City, the other being the National League’s (NL) New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the club the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed the Yankees in 1913.
The team is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, an LLC that is controlled by the family of the late George Steinbrenner, who purchased the team in 1973. Brian Cashman is the team’s general manager, and Aaron Boone is their manager. The team’s home games were played at Yankee Stadium from 1923 to 1973 and from 1976 to 2008. In 1974 and 1975, their home games were played at Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium was renovated. From 2009 to 2012, their home games were played at their original home field of Yankee Stadium; they shared this facility with their crosstown rivals, the Mets during this time while it underwent extensive renovations that included substantial additions to its gross capacity which made it temporarily one of baseball’s largest ballparks by capacity. Since 2013, they have played at newly constructed Yankee Stadium adjacent to Citi Field formerly used by their NL rivals.”

The Tampa Bay Rays are a professional baseball team based in Tampa, Florida. The Rays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) East division. Since their inception, the Rays have played their home games at Tropicana Field.
The franchise won its first AL championship in 2008, wild card berth in 2010, and AL East title in 2020. The Tampa Bay Rays’ chief rivals are the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Regarding the former, since the inception of interleague play, the Rays have had a better head-to-head record against the Yankees (16–11 as of June 2020).
In regards to the Red Sox, the rivalry is more one-sided; despite having done so only three times previously in franchise history, as of June 2020, they managed to post a 13-game win streak against their rivals from up north, which is the longest single-season win streak by either team against the other in over 100 years.

The Tampa Bay Rays won the New York Yankees game last night 8-3. The Rays were led by their starting pitcher Blake Snell, who went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight batters. Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka also had a solid outing, going six innings and giving up three runs on five hits. However, the Rays bullpen was able to shut down the Yankees over the final three innings, while the Rays offense added five insurance runs. The win improves the Rays’ record to 63-41 on the season, while the Yankees fall to 60-43.

The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Blue Jays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. The team plays its home games at the Rogers Centre. Originally based at Exhibition Stadium, the team began playing its home games at the SkyDome upon its opening in 1989. Since 2000, the Blue Jays have been owned by Rogers Communications and in 2004, the SkyDome was purchased by that company, which it renamed Rogers Centre. The team’s uniform colors are white, blue and red and its logo designs include a maple leaf in each corner and three blue jays below a white ‘JAYS’ wordmark. In 1977 and 1978, they finished last place with identical 64–98 records; however they improved significantly in 1979 when they reached second place with a record of 89–73 behind winner Baltimore Orioles (and ahead of Boston Red Sox). In 1980 East Division they again finished last with a 75–87 record because of high expectations after their previous season’s finish which resulted in disappointment among players and fans alike.

As one of the AL’s eight charter teams in 1901, this particular franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where it played as the St. Louis Browns from 1902 through 1953. After 52 years in St. Louis, the franchise was purchased in November 1953 by a syndicate headed by Baltimore business interests led by Clarence Miles and Jack Dunn Jr., owner and general manager of the Eagles, who then moved the team to Baltimore for the 1954 season, renaming themselves as the Baltimore Orioles. The team’s current owner is Peter Angelos.
The Orioles have had several periods of success throughout their history including 3 World Series titles (1966, 1970, 1983), 7 AL Pennants (1964-1971, 1979, 1983), and 6 East Division titles (1969-1971, 1973-1974, 1979). However, they have also gone through periods of extended mediocrity or poor play including 14 straight losing seasons from 1998-2011 and finishing last in their division 18 times since 1954. Despite their many ups and downs throughout their history, the Orioles are one of only three franchises (the other two being the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants) to have never relocated nor had their franchise revoked by Major League Baseball.
