A Yankees fan who threw a ball at a Red Sox player during a game at Yankee Stadium has been banned from the stadium for life, the team announced on Tuesday.
The fan, named Gerry Labbe, was identified by security cameras and ejected from the game on Monday night after he threw the ball at Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts, who was standing in right field.
“The New York Yankees have a zero tolerance policy for this type of obscene behavior, which is punishable by expulsion from the stadium,” the team said in a statement. “We will also be coordinating with Major League Baseball to identify the individual and pursue any further actions.”

Yankees Ban Fan Who Threw Ball at Red Sox Player
The New York Yankees have announced that the fan who threw a ball at Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts during Tuesday’s game has been banned from Yankee Stadium for life.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Yankees said they ” remind all fans that they are responsible for their conduct at all times and that any violation of baseball’s code of fan conduct will result in ejection and, potentially, other penalties.”
The incident occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Betts was fielding a pop fly hit by Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres. As Betts was catching the ball, a fan in the stands threw a ball at him. The ball hit Betts on the right side of his head, but he was not injured.
The Yankees said they have “zero tolerance” for fan misconduct and are “cooperating fully with the Boston Police Department as they investigate this incident.”
This is not the first time a fan has been banned from Yankee Stadium for throwing a projectile at a player. In 2017, a fan was banned for life after throwing a half-full can of soda at Baltimore Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim during an outfield celebration.
